Urban Sketching London Architecture

Mayad Allos

“Master the Rules, then break them". Learn how to sketch architectural houses with artist and teacher Mayad Allos (@mayadallos_art) as he guides you in capturing urban architecture with precision. Achieve correct proportions, add depth through shadows and colour values, and use white spaces effectively without relying on perspective techniques.

With a typical London townhouse elevation as the final project, this course will guide you in creating this scene using pen, ink, and watercolour.

This course is suitable for intermediate artists.

COURSE CURRICULUM

Session 1: Doors and Windows
Duration: 90 min

The first session focuses on drawing windows and doors using pen, ink, and ruler. You'll learn precise techniques to depict architectural details accurately, ensuring clean lines and correct proportions for a detailed and realistic final project.

Session 2: Proportions and Compositions
Duration: 90 min

The second session covers achieving correct proportions and composition and effective placement of elements on the page. You'll learn to scale and position components accurately, creating a balanced and aesthetically pleasing design while maximizing page format and maintaining harmony.

Session 3: Foliage & Trees
Duration: 90 min

The third session teaches realistic and visually pleasing foliage shapes and colours. Using pen, ink, and watercolour, you'll create organic-looking trees and plants with varied leaf shapes, branch structures, and shading. You'll also explore colour blending and layering for vibrant, convincing foliage.

Session 4: Putting it All Together
Duration: 90 min

In the final session, you'll integrate all the skills learned to create a cohesive townhouse elevation. This includes detailed windows and doors, correctly proportioned building structure, and realistic foliage, resulting in a complete and balanced composition.

Apologies if this is posted twice, having some issues on my end. It needs a redo with the proper sized brushes, especially the shadows.

This is the third attempt of the drawing and first attempt at the painting. I really messed up the shadow of the tree with branch shadows going everywhere. Next attempt I will draw them in. I added some texture to the tree trunk to differentiate from the shadow and lightened the shadow against the house.

Learning so much the last few weeks. Unfortunately i can't make tomorrow's live session, but looking forward to watching the recording and starting on the final project. Thanks for a great series! Of course, I see a hundred mistakes in my work, but it was really fun to create.

This is the second attempt of the drawing of lesson four with perspective and way too much detail so I didn’t proceed to paint. ( the first attempt I got rid of)

Finished another of Mayad Allos" class assignments but not so happy with this one.. Tried to use Neutral tint for the shadows instead of Paynes Gray and it made the shadows look dirty. Also my straight lines were not as well done as before but I was trying to not obsess over them this time
