“Master the Rules, then break them". Learn how to sketch architectural houses with artist and teacher Mayad Allos (@mayadallos_art). He will guide you in capturing urban architecture with precision. Achieve correct proportions and depth through shadows, colour values and effective use of white space without relying on perspective techniques.
With a typical London townhouse elevation as the final project, this course will guide you in creating this scene using pen, ink, and watercolour.
COURSE CURRICULUM
Session 1: Doors and Windows
Duration: 90 min
The first session focuses on drawing windows and doors using pen, ink, and ruler. You'll learn precise techniques to depict architectural details accurately, ensuring clean lines and correct proportions for a detailed and realistic final project.
Session 2: Proportions and Compositions
Duration: 90 min
The second session covers achieving correct proportions and composition and effective placement of elements on the page. You'll learn to scale and position components accurately, creating a balanced and aesthetically pleasing design while maximizing page format and maintaining harmony.
Session 3: Foliage & Trees
Duration: 90 min
The third session teaches realistic and visually pleasing foliage shapes and colours. Using pen, ink, and watercolour, you'll create organic-looking trees and plants with varied leaf shapes, branch structures, and shading. You'll also explore colour blending and layering for vibrant, convincing foliage.
Session 4: Putting it All Together
Duration: 90 min
In the final session, you'll integrate all the skills learned to create a cohesive townhouse elevation. This includes detailed windows and doors, correctly proportioned building structure, and realistic foliage, resulting in a complete and balanced composition.
